Academic Institutions and Education - 984 Words
Academic institutions are posed with the responsibilities of ensuring that all its students gain meaningful education. Education, takes place in many forms and one of these ways is through extra curricula activities and/or involvement. Co-curricular learning can be highlighted in participation in student groups including student government, departmental groups, interest groups, honor and recognition societies as well as pan-hellenic organizations-sororities, fraternities. The Adviser Often times, participating in groups can develop a number of professional skills which can transcend college. Student groups are also a great way to foster interpersonal relationships and to be involved in the academic atmosphere. But the groups do not run on their own. In fact, they are normally headed by a governing body including an adviser. Advisers are faculty or staff of the institution who have agreed to dedicate time and effort in carrying out or in ensuring that the mission and goals of the group are carried out successfully. With some colleges housing more than 100 groups or student organizations, there is a great need for student group advisers. The University of California-Los Angeles alone has 800 registered groups. The structure of the institution would determine the goals of the adviser.
